Rebellion Rocks Maharashtra Alliances Before Election
  • Rebel candidates within the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances are challenging the official candidates in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
  • The Shinde faction of Shiv Sena is opposing BJP candidates, while BJP members are rebelling against Shinde Sena candidates.
  • Ajit Pawar's NCP also faces internal conflicts, with members challenging both BJP and Shinde Sena candidates.

The upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are witnessing a surge in internal conflicts within the ruling Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances, with a significant number of rebel candidates challenging their own alliance members. This rebellion presents a significant challenge to the unity of both alliances, potentially influencing the outcome of the elections. As the deadline for withdrawing nominations approaches, party leaders are scrambling to pacify the rebels and maintain a united front. The most prominent instance of rebellion comes from the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, with members opposing BJP candidates in various constituencies. This friction is visible in Airoli, Belapur, Kalyan East, Vikramgad, Phulambri, and Solapur City, where Shinde faction members are contesting against BJP's officially chosen candidates.

The BJP, however, is not immune to internal conflicts. Party leaders have also rebelled against official Shinde Sena candidates in regions like Pachora, Buldhana, Mehkar, Ovala-Majiwada, and Jalna. This cross-alliance rebellion further highlights the deep-rooted discontent and power struggles within the Mahayuti alliance. Ajit Pawar's NCP is also facing internal challenges, with BJP members filing independent nominations against NCP candidates in constituencies like Aher and Amalner. This dissent extends to Pathari, Shahpur, Kalwan, and other seats, demonstrating the volatile nature of alliances in the run-up to the elections. The Shinde Sena has also challenged Ajit Pawar's NCP representatives, with notable contests emerging in Khed Alandi and Yeola.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi, the alliance of opposition parties, is not immune to internal tensions, with rebel candidates emerging from within the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In Kasba, Kamal Vyavhare of Congress is contesting against the official Congress candidate, while similar rebellions have emerged in Parola-Erandole, Byculla, Rajapur, and South Solapur. In Pimpri, a former MLA from the Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena has opposed a Sharad Pawar faction candidate. These rebellions within the MVA demonstrate the fractured nature of the opposition alliance, further complicating the political landscape of Maharashtra. With the November 4 withdrawal deadline approaching, party leaders are racing to mediate and unify the alliances. The fate of these alliances hinges on their ability to resolve these internal conflicts and present a united front to the voters. The upcoming election promises to be a tense and closely watched contest, with the potential for dramatic shifts in the political landscape of Maharashtra.
