The Indian Railways has unveiled its latest addition to the nation's growing high-speed rail network: India's longest Vande Bharat Express, connecting the capital city of Delhi to Patna, the capital of Bihar. This new train is poised to provide passengers with a fast and luxurious travel experience, making the journey between these two major cities significantly more efficient and comfortable.
The Delhi-Patna Vande Bharat Express embarked on its inaugural journey on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, departing from Delhi at 8:25 am and reaching Patna, covering a distance of 994 km, in 11 hours and 30 minutes by 8 pm. This new route surpasses the previous longest Vande Bharat Express, which ran between New Delhi and Varanasi, covering 771 kilometers in 8 hours. The Delhi-Patna train operates on a trial basis, making stops at Arrah, Buxar, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Prayagraj, and Kanpur, offering connectivity to various cities along the route.
The train operates on a fixed schedule, departing from Delhi on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and from Patna on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The Delhi-bound train departs Patna at 7:30 am, reaching Delhi at 7 pm. Passengers on this train currently have the option of only chair car seating, with no sleeper class available. However, Indian Railways has plans to introduce a Sleeper Coach in the future, enhancing the service and providing greater convenience for passengers. The ticket prices for the Delhi-Patna Vande Bharat Express are set at Rs 2,575 for the AC Chair Car and Rs 4,655 for the Executive Chair Car, offering various options for passengers to choose from based on their budget and preferences.
The introduction of this new Vande Bharat Express route coincides with the festive season of Diwali and Chhath Puja, making it a convenient and comfortable option for people traveling back home to Bihar. This train, along with the recently launched Vande Bharat Express route from Lucknow to Bihar's Chhapra Junction, significantly enhances rail connectivity for people traveling to Bihar, enabling them to reach their destinations with ease and comfort. The Lucknow-Chhapra Vande Bharat Express operates six days a week, departing Lucknow at 2:15 PM and arriving at Chhapra at 9:30 PM, with stops at various cities including Sultanpur, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Ballia, Suremanpur, and Chhapra.
The Indian Railways is consistently expanding its high-speed rail network, introducing new Vande Bharat Express routes and enhancing connectivity across the country. These developments are aimed at promoting faster and more comfortable travel options for passengers, encouraging people to choose rail travel for their journeys, and fostering economic growth in the regions served by these high-speed trains. The introduction of the Delhi-Patna Vande Bharat Express is a significant step in this direction, offering a faster, more convenient, and luxurious travel option for passengers traveling between these two cities, contributing to the overall development of the Indian rail network.
