The 2024 Ayodhya Deepotsav, inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, marks a significant event in the city's history. This year's celebration holds particular significance as it is the first Deepotsav to take place after the consecration of the Ram Temple, adding a layer of religious fervor and cultural importance to the occasion. The event promises to be grander than ever, with the Uttar Pradesh government aiming to set a Guinness World Record by lighting nearly 28 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) at the Ram Temple on Wednesday.
The Deepotsav festivities go beyond the record-breaking attempt, showcasing a rich tapestry of cultural traditions and spiritual significance. The aarti ceremony on the Saryu Ghat, featuring over 1,100 people and 1,100 diyas accompanied by 1,100 Vedacharyas, further enhances the event's grandeur. The event has drawn prominent figures, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, signifying its cultural and spiritual importance.
A significant aspect of the Deepotsav celebration is the mobilization of over 30,000 volunteers who are engaged in coordinating the lighting of diyas across 55 ghats, ensuring a smooth and efficient execution of the event. To ensure accuracy in the diya count and overall organization, a 30-member Guinness World Records team, led by consultant Nischal Barot, is monitoring the event using drones, capturing the sheer scale and spectacle of the Deepotsav.
The Deepotsav goes beyond a visual spectacle, incorporating elements of cultural exchange and showcasing India's artistic heritage. A grand Shobha Yatra featuring 18 artistic tableaus with artists from six different countries and 16 Indian states adds a global dimension to the event, making it a platform for cultural exchange and promoting India's rich artistic heritage.
In addition to the physical celebrations, the 'Ek Diya Ram ke Naam' initiative encourages individuals to participate virtually by lighting diyas via the Divya Ayodhya app, making the Deepotsav a truly inclusive event. This initiative has also contributed to boosting tourism and business sectors in Ayodhya, adding a festive spirit to the celebration and supporting the local economy.
The Deepotsav, despite its grandeur, is not without its logistical and security considerations. To ensure the safety and smooth flow of crowds, approximately 10,000 personnel, including undercover officers, have been deployed. Access to 17 key routes leading to Ram Ki Paidi is restricted to pass holders only. Additional LED screens for live viewing, along with arrangements for 5,000 to 6,000 spectators, ensure everyone can witness the event safely. Additional viewing points are set up across the city to accommodate large crowds.
The organizers have also focused on sustainable practices, utilizing special low-soot lamps to minimize pollution. The Animal Husbandry Department is contributing by lighting 1,50,000 “Gau Deep” lamps, adding a unique element to the celebration. Outside the main temple building, wax lamps are used to avoid pollution and preserve cleanliness around the temple area. The Deepotsav, a culmination of tradition, spectacle, and innovation, promises to be a memorable event, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Ayodhya and the enduring spirit of India’s festivals.
