The #MeToo movement continues to reverberate in the Indian entertainment industry, with the latest development unfolding in Kerala. Following a series of sexual harassment allegations against prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry, the state government has taken action, removing actor Mukesh, also a CPI(M) MLA, from a film policy committee. This decision comes in the wake of accusations made by actress Minu Muneer against Mukesh, adding fuel to the fire of the burgeoning #MeToo scandal in Malayalam cinema.
Muneer's accusations against Mukesh are not isolated. She has also leveled serious charges of verbal and physical abuse against other prominent actors, including Maniyanpilla Raju, Jayasurya, and Idavela Babu, all of whom she alleges engaged in inappropriate behavior during their collaborations on film projects. Muneer initially shared her allegations on her Facebook page, detailing a series of disturbing incidents dating back to 2013, bringing to light the pervasiveness of harassment within the industry. These allegations, coupled with the revelations of the Hema Committee report, which uncovered instances of harassment in Malayalam cinema, have intensified calls for accountability and reform.
