A disturbing incident unfolded in New Delhi's Kishangarh area on Saturday night when two traffic police officers were injured in a hit-and-run incident. Assistant Sub-Inspector Pramod Singh and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan, both serving in the Vasant Vihar traffic circle, were attempting to apprehend a car that had disregarded a red light. The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in their line of duty, especially when dealing with reckless motorists who prioritize their own escape over the safety of others.

The officers were engaged in mobile prosecution challan on Vedant Deshika Marg (Ber Sarai Market Road) when they noticed a car speeding towards them, having blatantly ignored the red light signal. Recognizing the potential danger, Sailesh Chouhan signaled the car to stop, and the driver initially complied. However, as the officers approached the vehicle and requested the driver to step out, the driver abruptly reversed his decision and attempted to escape, dragging the officers for an estimated 20 meters. This reckless act resulted in minor injuries to both officers.

The police, upon receiving a PCR call reporting the incident, swiftly arrived at the scene along with crime and forensic teams. The injured officers had already been transported to Safdarjung Hospital by a PCR van. Their statements were subsequently recorded, providing crucial details about the incident. An FIR was promptly registered on Sunday, encompassing various charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These charges include attempt to murder, obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, assault, causing hurt to deter a public servant, and joint liability. The severity of the charges underscores the seriousness of the incident and the potential consequences for the perpetrator.

The police investigation is actively underway, and they have already secured information regarding the car's owner. Their focus now shifts to identifying and apprehending the suspect who fled the scene. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of respecting law enforcement officers and adhering to traffic rules. The reckless disregard for safety exhibited by the driver in this case not only endangered the lives of the officers but also placed other road users at risk. It is imperative that authorities take decisive action against such individuals to ensure the safety of law enforcement personnel and the public at large.
