The upcoming Maharashtra elections have seen a flurry of activity from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, with leaders working tirelessly to ensure unity and a smooth campaign launch. The MVA, a coalition of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SCP), faces a crucial challenge in the form of rebel candidates from within its ranks, threatening to disrupt the alliance's strategy and potential for success.
Leading figures like Ramesh Chennithala, AICC in-charge, and Sanjay Raut, SS-UBT leader, are spearheading efforts to persuade these rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations before the November 4th deadline. The party faces the most significant challenge in this regard, with approximately a dozen “serious” rebel candidates who are running against the MVA's chosen nominees. On the other hand, the NCP-SCP, led by Sharad Pawar, appears to have the least issues with rebel candidates, as the Maratha strongman's meticulous selection of candidates and seats has minimized internal discord.
While the efforts to appease rebel candidates are underway, the MVA leaders are confident that their alliance will be stronger and more cohesive than the Mahayuti after the nomination withdrawal deadline. The Congress is expected to contest approximately 102 seats, while the SS-UBT and NCP-SCP are aiming for around 96 and 86 seats respectively. To ensure the smooth operation of the alliance, efforts are also being made to accommodate smaller parties like the SP, PWP, and Left by offering them a few seats from the larger parties' shares. The upcoming election will be a crucial test for the MVA, with its success hinging on its ability to manage internal conflicts and present a united front to voters.
