Divya Files New Bail Application in ADM Death Case

Divya Files New Bail Application in ADM Death Case
  • Divya seeks bail in ADM's death
  • Defence cites unclear police probe
  • Family opposes Divya's release

The tragic suicide of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) K. Naveen Babu has sent shockwaves through the community, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continues to unfold. At the center of this investigation is P.P. Divya, the former Kannur district panchayat president, who is currently on remand. Divya has recently filed a new bail application in the Thalassery Principal Sessions Court, hoping to secure her release from custody.

Divya's legal team has presented a compelling case for her release, highlighting alleged shortcomings in the police investigation. The defence argues that the investigation report lacks clarity, particularly regarding a statement from District Collector Arun K. Vijayan, who mentioned Naveen's reference to an unspecified “mistake” prior to his suicide. The defence contends that the police failed to adequately explore the nature of this remark, leaving a crucial element of the investigation unresolved.

Further, the defence has pointed to the absence of crucial testimony from key individuals, including the Land Revenue Commissioner, who led an initial investigation, and complainant Prashanth, who appeared before Vigilance Dy.SP. The defence also questioned the lack of police scrutiny regarding Prashanth's presence at the ADM's quarters on the day of the incident. These omissions, according to the defence, undermine the thoroughness and impartiality of the investigation.

Despite these arguments, Naveen’s family has indicated their strong opposition to Ms. Divya’s release on bail. The family is clearly seeking justice for their loved one and believes that Divya's release could potentially hinder the ongoing investigation. The Thalassery Sessions Court will now review Divya's bail petition and request a police report on the matter. The outcome of this review will determine whether Divya will be granted bail or remain in custody as the investigation continues.
