Odisha's Subhadra Yojana Launch by PM Modi
  • PM Modi to launch Odisha's Subhadra Yojana
  • Scheme provides financial aid to women
  • Over 50 lakh women to receive first installment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the 'Subhadra Yojana,' an ambitious women empowerment initiative of the Odisha government, during his visit to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. This scheme, designed to uplift women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, will be the highlight of his visit, with the Prime Minister also inaugurating 26 lakh PM Awas Yojana houses in Gadakana, a slum area in the city.

The Subhadra Yojana, allocated a substantial Rs 20,000 crore in the state's 2024-25 annual budget, will provide financial assistance to women with an annual income of less than Rs 1,800. The program aims to improve their economic standing and empower them through two installments of financial aid each year - one on Raksha Bandhan and the other on International Women's Day. The scheme's effectiveness hinges on its ability to reach and benefit the intended target group, ensuring its impact extends beyond symbolic gestures and translates into tangible improvements in the lives of the beneficiaries.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida highlighted the scheme's significance, stating that nearly one crore women will benefit from the Subhadra Yojana. She emphasized its potential to bring about a positive change in the lives of these women by providing financial stability and opportunities. The first installment of Rs 5,000 will be disbursed to over 50 lakh women on Tuesday, with subsequent installments totaling Rs 45,000 to be distributed over the next five years in nine equal installments.

The launch of the Subhadra Yojana is expected to have a significant socio-economic impact, empowering women across Odisha and complementing existing welfare initiatives in the state. It will be crucial to monitor the scheme's implementation, ensuring the funds reach the intended beneficiaries and contribute to their long-term economic security and empowerment. The success of the scheme will be measured not only by the number of women reached but also by the positive changes it brings about in their lives.
