Zaheer Khan Appointed as Lucknow Super Giants Mentor
  • Zaheer Khan joins Lucknow Super Giants as mentor for IPL 2025.
  • He replaces Gautam Gambhir, who rejoined Kolkata Knight Riders.
  • KL Rahul's future with LSG remains uncertain despite meeting with owner.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have made a significant addition to their coaching staff for the upcoming IPL 2025 season, appointing former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan as their new team mentor. This appointment marks a new era for the franchise, with Zaheer taking over the role previously held by Gautam Gambhir, who departed to rejoin his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KRR), before IPL 2024. The announcement was made by LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka during a press conference where he outlined his plans for the franchise's future.

Zaheer brings a wealth of experience to the LSG, having previously served as Director of Cricket and Head of Global Development for the Mumbai Indians (MI) from 2018 to 2022. He has also been a part of three IPL teams as a player, representing MI, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Daredevils. Zaheer's appointment adds a formidable force to the LSG coaching staff, joining head coach Justin Langer, along with assistant coaches Lance Klusener and Adam Voges.

While the appointment of Zaheer Khan is a significant development for LSG, the franchise also faces uncertainty regarding the future of star batsman KL Rahul. Reports suggest that Rahul, who joined LSG for a hefty Rs 17 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction, met with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka in Kolkata to discuss his future with the team. While there is no confirmation of Rahul's retention, Goenka's statement that “KL Rahul is an important and integral part of the Supergiants family” suggests a potential commitment to the player. However, Goenka also expressed hesitation to comment on speculation regarding Rahul's future, leaving the situation open to interpretation.
