Rahul Dravid's Son Selected for U-19 Squad, but Misses World Cup
  • Samit Dravid, son of Rahul Dravid, was selected for the India U-19 squad.
  • He will miss the 2026 U-19 World Cup due to age restrictions.
  • Samit has shown promise in recent domestic tournaments.

Samit Dravid, the son of former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid, has been included in the India under-19 squad for the upcoming multi-format series against Australia. This selection marks a significant step in Samit's cricketing journey, as he follows in his father's footsteps. However, he will not be eligible to participate in the 2026 U-19 World Cup, as he will be over the age limit by then.

Samit, born on November 10, 2005, is currently two months away from turning 19. The age limit for the U-19 World Cup is 19, making him ineligible for the tournament. The upcoming series against Australia will provide him with valuable experience against a strong opposition, preparing him for future international challenges.

The series comprises a three-match one-day series to be held in Puducherry on September 21, 23, and 26, and two four-day matches in Chennai starting on September 30 and October 7. The one-day series will be led by Uttar Pradesh's Mohammad Amaan, while Madhya Pradesh's Soham Patwardhan will captain the four-day matches.

Samit, a promising pace-bowling all-rounder, is currently showcasing his talents for Mysore Warriors in the KSCA Maharaja T20 trophy in Bengaluru. However, his performance with the bat in the tournament has been underwhelming, scoring 82 runs from seven innings with a highest score of 33. He has yet to bowl in the tournament.

Despite his recent struggles with the bat in the T20 tournament, Samit has demonstrated his abilities in the past. Earlier this year, he played a crucial role in Karnataka's maiden title triumph in the Cooch Behar Trophy. He scored 362 runs from eight matches, with his 98 runs against Jammu and Kashmir standing out for its quality and fluency. Samit also impressed with the ball, taking 16 wickets in eight matches, including two wickets in the final against Mumbai.

The selection of Samit Dravid in the India U-19 squad is a testament to his talent and potential. While he will miss the upcoming U-19 World Cup, this experience will be invaluable for his development as a cricketer. He will continue to work hard, refine his skills, and aim for a bright future in the world of cricket.
