KTR Slams Congress, BJP over Kavitha Bail, Rajiv Gandhi Statue
  • KTR criticizes Congress, BJP over Kavitha's bail.
  • BRS leader alleges hypocrisy in opposition's statements.
  • KTR mocks Revanth Reddy's stance on Rajiv Gandhi statue.

K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has launched a scathing attack on both the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of making baseless claims regarding a supposed BRS-BJP and BRS-Congress nexus, respectively. This statement came after the Supreme Court granted bail to BRS MLC K. Kavitha on Tuesday. Rama Rao, in his statement on Wednesday, highlighted the hypocrisy in the opposition's pronouncements. He pointed out that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had been granted bail in December 2015 by the court in the National Herald case, a case registered by the Enforcement Directorate. He questioned whether this meant that the Congress and BJP were indeed in cahoots. He further pointed to the granting of bail to AAP leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia last week, citing that since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is a part of the INDIA bloc led by the Congress, does this indicate an AAP-Congress-BJP nexus? Rama Rao even brought up the infamous note-for-vote case, where Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, then an MLA of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), was granted bail after the BJP Government assumed power at the Centre. He questioned whether these instances suggest that the BJP and its allies and the Congress and its allies are actually partners in disguise.

Rama Rao continued his criticism by targeting BJP leaders for alleging a BRS-Congress nexus in securing bail for Kavitha. He drew parallels between the actions of the BJP and Congress, highlighting the instances of bail being granted to their leaders in different cases. By doing so, he aimed to expose the double standards and selective outrage displayed by the opposition parties. The BRS leader also took a swipe at the government's decision to install Rajiv Gandhi's statue on the island created in front of the Secretariat. He satirized Revanth Reddy's apparent shift in affection towards Rajiv Gandhi, highlighting the hypocrisy of a man who had previously called Sonia Gandhi 'Bali Devata' (a goddess seeking sacrifices). He criticized Reddy's newfound reverence for Rajiv Gandhi, pointing out that it was a strategic move after securing the PCC post through backdoor means. He called Reddy's actions uncultured and condemned his past attempts to crush the Telangana movement, contrasting it with his current efforts to break ground for the Telangana Talli statue.

Rama Rao's analogy comparing the situation to Godse installing the statue of Mahatma Gandhi was a bold statement aimed at highlighting the perceived absurdity of Revanth Reddy's actions. It highlighted the incongruity of a politician who had previously opposed the Telangana movement now championing the installation of a statue that represents a symbol of national unity. He concluded his statement by reiterating the BRS's commitment to replacing all statues not connected to Telangana with Telangana Talli statues in the future. This verbal volley between K.T. Rama Rao and the Congress and BJP leaders showcases the heated political landscape in Telangana. It highlights the BRS's assertive stance in defending its leaders and its commitment to promoting Telangana's identity. The debate surrounding the installation of the Rajiv Gandhi statue, combined with the accusations of political collusion, will likely continue to fuel political discourse in the state leading up to the upcoming elections.
