Kolkata Hospital Horror Case Sparks Protests, Threats
  • BJP protests in Kolkata over hospital death, demanding justice.
  • BJP Mahila Morcha holds demonstration, demanding action from Women's Commission.
  • Students allege threats after protesting, doctor prohibited from hospital.

The recent death of a patient at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata has sparked widespread protests and allegations of threats against students. The BJP West Bengal unit, led by state president Sukanta Majumdar, has launched a series of demonstrations across the city, claiming a complete breakdown of law and order in the state. Majumdar accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of creating a 'syndicate raj' within hospitals, asserting that even death doesn't bring relief to the victims' families. The BJP's protests included a 'Chakka Jam,' a form of road blockade, aimed at bringing the state to a standstill and forcing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take responsibility for the situation.

The BJP's women's wing, Mahila Morcha, organized a protest march led by former MP Locket Chatterjee and MLA Agnimitra Paul, demanding action from the West Bengal Women's Commission. The protestors, however, were stopped by the police, with Mahila Morcha leader Falguni Patra alleging that the Commission was silent on the issue. Meanwhile, the TMC's student wing, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), organized their own protests at various locations across the state, holding meetings and rallies to counter the BJP's claims. The TMCP also organized protests in support of the doctors, who held a procession in Kolkata's Mominpur demanding justice for the victim.

However, the protests took a concerning turn at Medinipur Medical College, where a TMCP party follower, who is also a doctor, allegedly threatened some protesting students. As a result, the doctor has been prohibited from entering the hospital. Some students, speaking anonymously, revealed that they had received threats regarding their careers, examinations, and other academic aspects. These allegations highlight the tense atmosphere surrounding the protests and raise concerns about intimidation and the potential for further escalation of the situation.
