CUET-UG 2024: 22,920 Candidates Score Full Marks
  • 22,920 candidates scored full marks in CUET-UG
  • Business Studies had the most perfect scorers
  • Competition for top programmes is likely to increase

The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG 2024), the gateway to undergraduate courses across 283 universities in India, has seen a marginal increase in the number of top scorers this year. A total of 22,920 candidates achieved perfect scores across 45 subjects, a slight rise from the previous year. This year, the top scorers achieved a perfect 200, as the National Testing Agency (NTA) has moved away from percentile scores, which were used in 2022 and 2023 due to multiple exam sessions and normalization procedures.

The largest number of students scored full marks in Business Studies, with 8,024 candidates achieving the perfect score. Political Science followed with 5,141 top scorers, and History had 2,520 perfect scores. Among the 33 language papers offered, 1,904 candidates scored a perfect 200 in 18 languages. English saw 1,683 perfect scores out of 8.2 lakh candidates who took the test. Sanskrit and Punjabi also saw over 50 candidates achieving perfect scores.

While the number of perfect scorers has slightly increased from last year, the competition for sought-after programs in popular universities like Delhi University (DU) is likely to intensify. For instance, the number of students scoring 100 percentile in Business Studies has significantly increased from 2,357 in 2023 to 8,024 this year. However, for highly competitive programs like economics or business economics, the minimum eligible marks might decrease as the number of high scorers has dropped significantly. Despite the increase in perfect scorers, individual stories of success and aspirations for top colleges like Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) are emerging. Khusali Nahataa, a Delhi resident, scored a perfect 200 in Business Studies and aims to pursue a degree at either SRCC or LSR. Similarly, Anjali Jyoti, a student from DAV Noida, achieved a perfect score in Geography, Political Science, and Psychology. She hopes to secure a seat in a top DU college for Political Science.

The announcement of the CUET-UG results comes after a delay, which was attributed to allegations of irregularities in various competitive exams, including NEET-UG, UGC-NET, and CSIRUGC-NET. Initially, the results were scheduled for release on June 30th but were postponed due to these allegations. The exam, conducted in a hybrid mode for the first time, was cancelled in Delhi a day before the scheduled exam due to logistical reasons and was conducted later in the capital. The third edition of CUET-UG was designed to be completed in seven days, eliminating the need for score normalization as all exams were held in a single shift. The test was offered in both pen-paper and computer-based formats, with 15 subjects conducted in pen-paper mode and the remaining 48 subjects in the computer-based format.

The CUET-UG is a significant step towards standardizing admission processes for undergraduate programs across various universities in India. The exam aims to provide a fair and transparent platform for students to secure admissions to their preferred institutions. While the competition for top programs is set to intensify, the exam offers an opportunity for aspiring students from all backgrounds to pursue their academic goals.
