A bomb threat on the Jammu Tawi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express (train number 19926) in Ferozepur, Punjab, on Tuesday morning caused widespread disruption to rail services and triggered a security response involving multiple agencies. The threat, which was later found to be a hoax, led to the evacuation of passengers and the halting of the train at Kasu Begu railway station. The incident prompted a swift response from Punjab Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), who deployed bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs to the scene.
The threat was reported via the Rail Madad app at around 7.30 am, prompting immediate action from authorities. The app, which allows passengers to lodge complaints and track their status, played a crucial role in disseminating information about the potential threat. The Jammu Tawi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express was halted at Kasu Beghu station, approximately 10 kilometers from Ferozepur, as a precaution. The train was en route to Bhagat Ki Kothi station near Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Passengers were safely evacuated from the train, and bomb disposal squads, along with fire brigade and medical teams, were deployed to the site to search for any explosives.
After a thorough inspection, no bomb was found on the Jammu Tawi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express. The train and track were declared safe following which normal rail traffic resumed around 1 PM. The railway authorities with the help of local villagers organized ‘Langer’ of meal and drinking water for the passengers at the Kasu Beghu station. The hoaxer, who posted a message on RailMadad app using a mobile phone number registered in West Bengal, was traced and detained in West Bengal in the afternoon. The accused, identified by authorities, was apprehended from 24 Pargana in West Bengal, confirmed Soumya Mishra, SSP Ferozepur. The incident underscores the importance of responsible use of communication platforms and the potential for disruptions caused by false threats. The authorities' swift response and coordinated efforts prevented any casualties and ensured the safety of passengers and the resumption of normal rail services.
