Brittany Lauga, an Australian Member of Parliament (MP), has alleged that she was drugged and sexually assaulted during a night out in Yeppoon, Queensland. The incident has prompted an investigation by the Queensland Police Service.

Lauga, who serves as the assistant minister for health, shared her account of the alleged assault in an Instagram post, stating that she was attacked on an evening out in her constituency. She expressed her concern that such incidents could happen to anyone and emphasized the prevalence of such experiences among women.

According to Lauga, she sought medical attention after the incident, and tests confirmed the presence of drugs in her body that she had not knowingly ingested. She also mentioned that other women had reached out to her with similar experiences of potential drugging.

Lauga condemned the incident, asserting that women should be able to socialize without the fear of being drugged or assaulted. The Queensland Police Service confirmed that they are investigating a sexual assault complaint related to an incident in Yeppoon, but no other reports in the same area have been made.

Queensland Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon expressed shock and horror at the allegations, highlighting the disproportionate impact of domestic, family, and sexual violence on women. She emphasized the government's commitment to protecting women and preventing violence.

Lauga's experience has brought attention to the ongoing issue of gender-based violence in Australia. In recent weeks, the country has witnessed a spate of high-profile cases involving violence against women, sparking discussions about the need for stronger measures to address this societal problem.
