Delhi, the capital of India, is currently facing a severe air pollution crisis, with smog blanketing the city and air quality deemed 'very poor' by official monitoring agencies. This alarming situation highlights the urgent need for effective measures to combat air pollution and safeguard public health.
Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) through its Sameer app, which provides hourly air quality index (AQI) updates, paints a grim picture. Out of 38 monitoring stations in Delhi, a significant number, eight to be precise, recorded AQI readings exceeding 400. This indicates an extremely unhealthy level of air pollution, posing a serious threat to the health of the city's residents.
The presence of smog, a visible haze composed of particulate matter and other pollutants, is a stark reminder of the critical air pollution issue plaguing Delhi. This dense haze reduces visibility, impacting transportation and daily life, while the harmful pollutants it carries pose significant health risks. Respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular problems, and even premature mortality are among the consequences associated with prolonged exposure to such polluted air.
