The state of Manipur has been grappling with a surge in militant activity, as evidenced by the recent incidents of violence and arms seizures. On Saturday night, gunfire and explosions erupted in two separate locations - Koutruk in Imphal West and Tronglaobi in Bishnupur. According to reports, the Imphal West police stated that the assault in Koutruk Ching Leikai village was launched by militants around 7 pm, using advanced firearms and explosives. Security forces retaliated, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire.
In a separate development, the Assam Rifles apprehended two members of the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA) near border pillar number 87 on Saturday. The detainees, identified as N Priyo Singh (21) and S Devjit Singh (21), were later handed over to the Pallel Police Station. This arrest comes shortly after security forces apprehended one cadre of the outlawed Prepak (Pro) from Yanghoubung village near the India-Myanmar border on Friday. The detained Prepak (Pro) member, identified as Robert Lalhahdam, was found in possession of a rifle.
Simultaneously, security forces conducted a search operation at the foothills of Thangjing Ridge in the forested areas of Teijang village, Churachandpur district. This operation resulted in the recovery of five rifles, one homemade mortar, four detonators, and two grenades. In another operation in the Tentha Tuwaband foothills of Thoubal district, security forces seized six firearms and additional ammunition. These incidents underscore the growing threat posed by militant groups in Manipur and highlight the ongoing efforts of security forces to combat their activities.
