The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has strongly condemned the recent violent incident in Ghaziabad District Court where lawyers were allegedly subjected to a lathi charge at the behest of a District Court Judge. The incident, which has sparked outrage among the legal fraternity, involved lawyers protesting a bail order related to Bar Association office bearers. The situation escalated when a heated argument erupted between the lawyers and the District Judge, prompting the judge to call in police forces.
Videos of the incident, widely circulating on social media, show police officers using force to disperse the lawyers within the courtroom. The lawyers, in response, retaliated by throwing chairs, further escalating the conflict. The Bar Council has expressed its strong disapproval of the District Judge's actions, citing video footage as evidence. A five-member inquiry committee has been formed to thoroughly investigate the incident and identify any judicial, administrative, or police officers involved. The council has also decided to inform the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court of the incident and the anger felt by the state's advocate community.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has also condemned the lathi charge, echoing the concerns raised by the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh. The SCBA has called for a thorough inquiry into the actions of the District Judge, highlighting the gravity of the incident and the need for accountability. This event underscores the importance of maintaining a respectful and safe environment within courtrooms, ensuring that legal proceedings can be conducted fairly and without undue interference. The incident raises serious questions about the role of the judiciary and law enforcement in upholding the principles of justice and protecting the rights of all involved in legal proceedings.
