King Charles III and Queen Camilla recently embarked on a rejuvenating retreat at the Soukya International Holistic Health Centre in Bengaluru, India. The royal couple, who are known for their interest in holistic health practices, spent three days at the luxury wellness retreat, leaving on October 30, 2024, following a visit that marked their first trip to India since King Charles ascended the throne. The visit was not only a chance for rejuvenation but also served as an opportunity for the couple to be updated on the centre’s expansion plans, which include a new location in Portugal.

Soukya’s founder, holistic health practitioner Issac Mathai, revealed that the royal couple expressed their delight regarding the expansion, citing the proximity of Portugal to the UK as a factor that would allow for more frequent visits. This enthusiasm is unsurprising, considering King Charles’s long-standing interest in integrative medicine and his personal commitment to holistic approaches to health. He is a known advocate for organic farming, eco-friendly practices, and has even served as a patron of the Faculty of Homeopathy in the UK and the British Association for Holistic Medicine.

During his previous visit in 2019, King Charles planted a Champaca tree sapling at Soukya, a symbolic gesture of his commitment to the centre’s philosophy. This time, he planted a Jacaranda tree sapling, further solidifying his connection to the centre. His current visit was specifically planned for rejuvenation, following a recent cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatments. The therapies he underwent focused on detoxification and strengthening his immune system. The centre’s tailored approach provided the King with personalized rejuvenation sessions, taking into account his specific health needs.

The royal couple were treated to a bespoke experience during their stay, indulging in a South Indian diet that consisted of vegetarian organic food, including salads, soups, and the centre’s famous organic Mallika mangoes. The couple is known to be fond of idli, dosa, and organic soups, which were all included in their daily meals. Their routine started with a morning yoga session followed by breakfast, rejuvenation therapies, lunch, more therapies, a meditation session before dinner, and finally, bedtime at 9 p.m. The couple also enjoyed leisurely walks in the organic and medicinal gardens on the centre’s premises.
