The Deepotsav celebration in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed a breathtaking display of light and cultural grandeur, setting a new world record with over 25 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) illuminating the city. This festival, held in honor of Lord Rama, is a testament to the rich cultural heritage and spiritual significance of the holy city. The event drew large crowds, eager to witness the spectacular spectacle of the illuminated Sarayu River, bathed in a golden glow from the countless lamps.
The organizers aimed to light up at least 28 lakh diyas, but successfully lit 25,12,585, solidifying the new record. This achievement was a culmination of meticulous planning and execution. The Deepotsav was not merely a celebration of light, but also a showcase of diverse cultures and traditions. Performances by artists from six different countries, including Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia, filled the air with vibrant music and dance. Additionally, artists from various Indian states brought their own unique cultural expressions to the stage.
A Ram Leela performance, a traditional re-enactment of the epic Ramayana, was also a major highlight of the Deepotsav. The event was further enhanced by the presence of stunning tableaux created by Saket Mahavidyalaya and the Information and Tourism Departments. These tableaux vividly depicted scenes from the epic Ramayana, capturing the essence of Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, graced the occasion by participating in the 'aarti' and pulling the chariot carrying the Ramayana performers, signifying the significance of the festival. The Deepotsav was a testament to the enduring legacy of Lord Rama and the rich tapestry of Indian culture, leaving an unforgettable impression on all who witnessed it.
