PresVu Eye Drops Claims Under Scrutiny
  • PresVu eye drops claims are disputed by drug regulator
  • Medical experts question effectiveness and safety
  • Pilocarpine-based drops are not a new solution

The Indian drug regulator has cast doubt on the claims made by ENTOD Pharmaceuticals regarding its PresVu eye drops. The company had touted the product as the first in India specifically developed to reduce reading glass dependency for those suffering from presbyopia, a common age-related vision condition. However, a top official source to ANI described the claims as 'unethical and false presentation of facts.' The drug regulator has sought an explanation from the company for its misleading marketing.

ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, in its promotional materials, had highlighted the years of research and development that went into PresVu. They had also emphasized its potential to transform eye care in India, offering visual independence to millions. However, the company's claims are being met with skepticism from medical experts. Several ophthalmologists have voiced concerns about the efficacy and safety of PresVu, noting that it is essentially a lower concentration version of pilocarpine eye drops, a medication that has been used for glaucoma treatment for decades.

Dr. Charu Kashyap, Senior Consultant at Max Hospital Saket, described the pilocarpine-based approach as an 'imperfect and temporary solution' for reading problems. Dr. Samir Sud, Co-founder and Director of Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, explained that pilocarpine works by constricting the pupil, creating a pinhole effect that allows for both distance and near vision without glasses. However, he cautioned about potential complications, emphasizing the need for further research on the long-term safety of PresVu. Dr. Tushar Grover, Associate Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, corroborated these sentiments, stating that the drops are essentially pilocarpine at a lower concentration and are not a new solution. The medical community is urging caution and thorough investigation before widely accepting PresVu as a safe and effective treatment for presbyopia.
