Manipur Police Recovers Rocket Tails After Drone Attacks
  • Manipur Police recovered rocket tails
  • Assam Rifles DG's claims refuted
  • Student protests monitored for violence

The ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur has taken a dangerous turn with the use of sophisticated rockets and drones, leading to heightened security concerns. Manipur Police have recovered evidence of these attacks, including tails of rockets fired on civilian areas, contradicting claims by a retired Assam Rifles DG who denied their use. The police firmly refuted the accusations of partisan involvement, emphasizing the diverse composition of the force. In a statement, IGP (Administration) K Jayanta Singh dismissed the remarks by Lt. Gen P C Nair as “immature” and a “personal view”, stating that there is undeniable evidence of drone and missile attacks.

The police highlighted the recovery of drones and rocket tails as proof of these attacks, urging the public to acknowledge the severity of the situation. IGP (Operations) I K Muivah further clarified the composition of the Manipur Police, asserting that it represents various communities, including the Nagas, Meiteis, Manipuri Muslims, and non-Manipuris. He strongly denounced the notion of a “Meitei Police” as a “myopic” view and emphasized the multi-ethnic makeup of the force. In the context of the escalating violence, the authorities are facing the challenge of maintaining peace amidst student protests and ensuring the safety of security forces deployed to protect citizens.

Muivah addressed the ongoing student protests, recognizing their democratic right to rally and sit-in but urged the students to remain peaceful and avoid violence. He expressed concern about the potential for exploitation by vested interests who may be instigating violence. The police are closely monitoring social media platforms to identify and take action against individuals spreading misinformation or inciting panic. They are taking screenshots for documentation of those who instigate violence and spread false messages using fabricated images, acknowledging the harmful effects of such actions.
