Infosys, a leading global IT services company, has recently issued over 1,000 offer letters to candidates from its 2022 campus recruitment drive, according to the IT employee union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). The offers come after a delay of more than 2.5 years, prompting discussions about the company's recruitment and onboarding processes. While the company has confirmed that these offers are being fulfilled from a recruitment event that took place in 2022, the significant delay has sparked concerns among those affected.
The delayed offers are for the position of System Engineer, with a scheduled joining date of October 7, 2024. This news comes as a relief to the affected candidates, who have been waiting for nearly two years for a confirmed joining date. NITES, representing these employees, has expressed its satisfaction with the resolution of the uncertainty, but also emphasized its commitment to ensuring that Infosys fulfills its promises. They have warned that they are prepared to organize a protest outside the company's office if the joining date is not met.
Despite the positive development, this incident highlights the complexities and challenges faced by both companies and prospective employees in the IT industry, particularly during periods of economic instability or market fluctuations. The delay in issuing offers can have significant impacts on individuals' career planning, financial stability, and overall well-being. It also raises questions about the efficiency and transparency of the recruitment process within the industry.
In a separate development, NITES has accused Infosys of exploiting employees based in Pune. The union claims that Infosys has breached its initial salary agreements with engineering graduates hired in 2020 for the roles of System Engineer and Digital Specialist Engineer. The affected employees allege that their salaries have been significantly lowered compared to the promises made during the recruitment process, despite undergoing rigorous pre-training. NITES has formally petitioned the Ministry of Labour & Employment to intervene and investigate these allegations, advocating for fair labour practices and the protection of employees' rights.
