The tragic news of the drowning death of a 24-year-old Indian student, A Praneeth, in Toronto has shaken his family and friends back home. Praneeth, hailing from Meerpet, Telangana, was pursuing his Master’s degree in Canada and was celebrating his birthday with friends when the incident occurred. On Sunday morning, Praneeth went swimming in a lake but unfortunately never resurfaced. His father, A. Ravi, reported that despite immediate notification to local authorities, it took rescue teams over 10 hours to reach the lake. Sadly, Praneeth’s body was recovered later that evening.
The news reached the family on Monday through a friend of Praneeth’s brother. They are currently working closely with local authorities and friends in Canada to arrange the repatriation of his body. The family, overwhelmed with grief, is seeking the government’s assistance in expediting this process and bringing their beloved son back to Hyderabad. Praneeth had moved to Canada in 2019 to pursue his studies, followed by his elder brother in 2022. This sudden loss has left the family devastated.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns about safety measures and the response time of authorities in such situations. The delay in rescue teams reaching the lake raises questions about the efficiency of emergency services in the area. The incident also highlights the challenges faced by families of international students during emergencies, particularly when it comes to navigating the complexities of repatriation and dealing with the loss of a loved one abroad.
