The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat due to heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected throughout the day. This alert comes as a result of a cyclonic circulation moving westward, leading to persistent heavy rains across these three states. The IMD forecasts that the monsoon in Maharashtra will likely withdraw by October 5th.
Mumbai and Pune have already experienced significant waterlogging after torrential rains on Wednesday night. The heavy rain is expected to continue on Thursday, with the city likely to witness light to moderate rainfall over the weekend. Although the monsoon is expected to weaken, there is a possibility of the withdrawal date extending to October 10th.
The intense rainfall has caused disruptions to public transportation services, including flights and train and bus services. While services have been restored as water levels have receded in many areas, the impact of the heavy rainfall has been felt throughout the region. The IMD continues to monitor the weather situation and will issue further updates as needed.
