The peaceful immersion procession of a Ganesha idol in Davangere, Karnataka, was disrupted by an outbreak of violence involving stone pelting. The incident, which resulted in injuries to two police constables, led to the arrest of 30 individuals. The trouble began when some individuals started shouting slogans, escalating into a heated argument between two groups.
The confrontation quickly turned violent as individuals from one group started throwing stones, injuring two constables who were maintaining order during the procession. The police reacted swiftly, taking control of the situation and ensuring the safe immersion of the Ganesha idol. The incident, however, highlights the need for stricter measures to ensure peaceful religious processions and prevent such outbreaks of violence.
Davangere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth, who confirmed the arrests and the peaceful conclusion of the procession, emphasized the deployment of adequate security forces to manage the situation. Five separate cases have been registered concerning the incident, and investigations are ongoing to determine the root causes and identify all individuals involved in the violence.
