Delhi, the national capital, experienced a significant downpour on Wednesday, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions across the city. The heavy rainfall caused major congestion in several areas, including South, Central, and North Delhi, as well as in the neighboring cities of Noida and Gurugram.
The Delhi Traffic Police swiftly issued a traffic advisory in response to the situation, particularly highlighting the severe waterlogging at Mundka, which heavily impacted traffic flow on Rohtak Road. Earlier, traffic had also been affected on GTK Road and Ring Road due to waterlogging.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, to continue in Delhi for the next few hours. The Met department has also issued a yellow alert for the city, warning of potentially adverse weather conditions that could further worsen the traffic situation and disrupt daily activities.
The waterlogging on both carriageways between Tikri Border and Peeragarhi has resulted in significant delays and congestion for commuters traveling along this route. The authorities have urged commuters to avoid Mundka and opt for alternative routes.
The Delhi Traffic Police has provided alternative routes for commuters. Those traveling to Peeragarhi from Mundka are advised to take the Jharodha-Najafgarh route or use the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and then proceed via Najafgarh-Nangloi Road. For commuters headed to Bahadurgarh or Tikri Border, the recommended route is via Outer Ring Road-District Centre Janakpuri-Najafgarh.
The traffic police have appealed to the public and motorists to remain patient, follow traffic rules, and comply with the instructions of traffic personnel deployed at various intersections. Delhi's humidity level has reached 85 percent, and the maximum temperature is expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius.
