Delhi and its surrounding areas, collectively known as the National Capital Region (NCR), have been experiencing heavy rainfall, causing significant disruptions and challenges for residents. The city of Gurgaon, a major commercial hub in the region, has been particularly affected, with reports of knee-deep water inundating streets and roads. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, indicating the likelihood of more rainfall in the coming days.
The recent downpours have led to widespread waterlogging, making commuting difficult for residents. Traffic congestion has become a major issue, as flooded roads slow down vehicles and force people to navigate treacherous conditions. Images and videos shared on social media showcase the severity of the situation, with people wading through waterlogged roads and vehicles struggling to move.
The rainfall has also brought down temperatures in Delhi, with the minimum temperature recorded at 25.2 degrees Celsius. While the maximum temperature is expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius, the likelihood of continued rainfall throughout the day suggests that the city will remain cool and damp. The IMD's 10-day forecast predicts cloudy skies and the possibility of rain and thunderstorms until September 14.
This recent spell of heavy rainfall is not an isolated event. Delhi has experienced significant downpours in the past few weeks, leading to similar situations of waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The city's infrastructure, particularly its drainage system, has struggled to cope with the deluge, highlighting the need for improved urban planning and infrastructure development to mitigate the impacts of heavy rainfall.
