Congress-AAP alliance buzz in Haryana ahead of polls
  • Rahul Gandhi proposes AAP-Congress alliance in Haryana
  • AAP welcomes the proposal, BJP criticizes its feasibility
  • Congress finalizes candidates for Haryana assembly polls

The upcoming Haryana assembly elections have sparked a wave of political maneuvering, with the latest development being a potential alliance between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, expressed interest in such a coalition during a Central Election Committee meeting focused on the state. This move has garnered positive responses from the AAP, while the BJP has voiced skepticism about its effectiveness.

Sanjay Singh, an AAP MP, welcomed the proposal, highlighting their shared goal of defeating the BJP. The party has appointed Sandeep Pathak and Sushil Gupta to explore the possibility further and inform Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP's national convener, about the details. While the AAP expressed openness, they emphasized their preparedness to contest all 90 seats in the Haryana assembly, signifying their independent ambition.

The BJP, however, has remained critical of the potential alliance. Praveen Khandelwal, a BJP MP, pointed to the unsuccessful outcome of a previous Congress-AAP alliance in Delhi as a reason for skepticism. He argues that the people have already recognized these political figures and will not be swayed by their attempts at collaboration. The BJP's stance reflects their confidence in their own electoral prospects.

Meanwhile, the Congress has begun its preparations for the Haryana polls, finalizing the names of 34 candidates for the assembly elections. Deepak Babaria, the AICC in-charge of Haryana, announced that a complete list of candidates will be released by Wednesday, including the potential selection of star wrestler Vinesh Phogat. The Congress' efforts to solidify their candidate list demonstrate their commitment to contesting the elections aggressively.

The Election Commission has postponed the Haryana assembly polls to October 5th from October 1st, citing the need to accommodate a centuries-old festival of the Bishnoi community. The counting of votes will now take place on October 8th. This decision highlights the EC's commitment to balancing electoral logistics with respect for cultural traditions. The postponement adds another layer of complexity to the already dynamic political landscape of Haryana.
