The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a serious accusation against the Kolkata Police, alleging that the Tala police station fabricated records in the case of a trainee doctor's rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This revelation, brought to light during the custodial interrogation of former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and former officer in charge of Tala police station Abhijit Mondol, underscores the gravity of the situation and raises serious concerns about the integrity of the initial investigation.
The CBI's claims, based on evidence gathered during the interrogation of the accused, suggest that false records were created or altered at the Tala police station. This manipulation of evidence, along with accusations of disturbing the crime scene, misleading investigators, and attempting to conceal evidence, casts a shadow of doubt on the initial handling of the case by the Kolkata Police. The agency's move to seek an extension of custody for both Ghosh and Mondol, who were arrested on 14 September, highlights the ongoing nature of the investigation and the need for further probing.
Adding to the complexity of the case, the CBI has stated that it is investigating allegations of a broader conspiracy related to the doctor's death. This includes claims of deliberate evidence tampering, suggesting that individuals may have sought to cover up the true nature of the crime. The victim's family and protesting doctors have also raised concerns about the delay in filing an FIR, the hasty cremation of the body, and the presence of unauthorized individuals and doctors associated with Ghosh at the crime scene. These concerns point to the possibility of a deliberate attempt to hinder the investigation and obstruct justice.
