Omar Abdullah Taunts Mehbooba Mufti's 'Offer' for J&K Polls

  • PDP's manifesto allegedly copies NC's agenda
  • Abdullah urges PDP to not field candidates

The political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is heating up as the upcoming assembly elections draw closer. The National Conference (NC), led by Omar Abdullah, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Mehbooba Mufti, are locked in a heated battle for political dominance. The latest exchange of words between the two leaders further underscores the tense situation.

Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the NC, has taken aim at Mehbooba Mufti, accusing her of copying the NC's manifesto and essentially replicating its agenda. He pointed out that the PDP's manifesto includes promises like providing 200 free units of electricity and creating one lakh government jobs within the first year – commitments that both parties have now incorporated into their respective manifestos. This, according to Abdullah, demonstrates that there is little difference between the two parties' platforms, and he has challenged the PDP to not field candidates against the Congress-NC alliance, suggesting that they work together for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba Mufti, on the other hand, has stated that her party is willing to offer its full support to the Congress-NC alliance, ceding all assembly seats to them. However, she has placed a condition – the coalition must adopt the PDP's agenda. This agenda revolves around resolving the Kashmir issue and reopening the routes across the Line of Control (LoC). She emphasized that for her, the resolution of the Kashmir problem is paramount, trumping any considerations of electoral gain.

The political maneuvering between the NC and PDP highlights the complex dynamics of the J&K political scene. Both parties are vying for power, but the issue of the Kashmir problem looms large, casting a shadow over the upcoming elections. It remains to be seen whether the two parties will find common ground and form a united front, or whether their divergent approaches will lead to a fragmented political landscape in the region.
