Mollywood Sexual Abuse Sparks Protests in Kerala
  • Kerala protests erupt over sexual abuse
  • Actors accuse Mollywood of misconduct
  • Opposition demands investigation & resignations

The Malayalam film industry, known as Mollywood, is facing a wave of protests sparked by shocking allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct. The protests, which erupted in Kerala on Friday, are fueled by outrage over accounts shared by several female actors. These accounts have led to calls for a thorough investigation into the alleged misconduct and demands for the resignation of those accused, including prominent actor-politician Mukesh.

The Leader of the Opposition, V D Satheesan, has accused the CPI(M)-led government of shielding the perpetrators, specifically pointing to Mukesh who is facing accusations of sexual assault. Satheesan's accusations have heightened the intensity of the protests, with Mahila Congress activists in Kochi and Kollam taking to the streets, demanding justice for the victims and accountability from those in power.

The protests are focused on the Justice Hema Committee, which is tasked with investigating the allegations of sexual misconduct in Mollywood. Activists are demanding a swift and impartial investigation, along with the immediate resignation of CPI(M) MLA Mukesh. The gravity of the allegations and the public outrage underscore the need for a comprehensive and transparent inquiry into the abuse allegations. The protests highlight a growing awareness of the pervasiveness of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry and the urgent need for reform to ensure safety and accountability for those who have been victims of abuse.
