Hidden Camera Found in Girls' Hostel, Police Investigate
  • Students protested after hidden cameras were found in girls' hostel washrooms.
  • Police investigated the allegations, but no cameras were found.
  • A special team is examining devices and will take strict action.

A disturbing incident unfolded at a private engineering college in Andhra Pradesh, prompting student unrest and a thorough police investigation. Students alleged the discovery of hidden cameras within the washrooms of the girls' hostel, sparking a midnight protest on Thursday. This allegation escalated when rumors emerged that a final-year BTech student was selling videos captured by the hidden cameras, allegedly with the assistance of another student. The gravity of the situation prompted immediate police intervention to control the escalating protest.

Responding to the allegations, police conducted a meticulous search of the girls' hostel washrooms. However, as of Friday, no concealed cameras were found. The police also scrutinized laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices belonging to the suspects in the presence of both students and college staff. Despite the thorough examination, no incriminating evidence was found. However, police are not ruling out any possibilities and have announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) composed entirely of female police officers to handle the case.

The SIT will meticulously examine all seized cell phones and laptops, analyzing every image and document stored on the devices. The SP emphasized that if any incriminating material or video evidence is found, those responsible will face severe consequences, serving as a deterrent to potential future offenders. The authorities requested patience and understanding from the students and the public, urging them to allow the police the necessary time and space to conduct a comprehensive investigation. A team led by special officer Ramanamma, accompanied by officials from the women and child welfare department and 10 students, inspected the bathrooms in the girls' hostel.

In response to the incident, Minister Kollu Ravindra visited the college at the direction of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to address the agitating students. The minister assured the students that police security would be provided at the girls' hostel to ensure their safety. Following the minister's assurances and the promise of strict action, the students called off their protest. The college management, in an effort to restore normalcy and allow for further investigation, declared a three-day holiday starting from Saturday.
