On Friday night, an IndiGo flight bound for Bengaluru experienced a harrowing incident when its left engine failed shortly after take-off from Kolkata. The aircraft, flight 6E573, departed Kolkata at 10:36 pm and was forced to make an emergency landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport at 10:53 pm. The incident highlights the critical importance of safety protocols and the skilled response of pilots in such situations.

The incident unfolded rapidly. Upon detecting the engine failure, the pilot swiftly initiated emergency procedures, communicating with Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requesting immediate landing clearance. Both runways at NSCBI were promptly handed over to ATC to facilitate a safe return. Thankfully, no fire or spark was reported during the incident. The full emergency was declared at 10:39 pm and withdrawn at 11:08 pm once the aircraft safely landed.

The airline, IndiGo, issued a statement confirming the incident, stating that the flight returned to its origin due to “technical issues”. They highlighted the pilot's adherence to necessary procedures and the safe landing of the aircraft. In a gesture of goodwill, IndiGo provided refreshments to the passengers while arranging an alternate aircraft to continue their journey to Bengaluru. While the incident caused inconvenience, the airline expressed regret for any disruption to passengers' travel plans.
