The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, unfolded on the night of August 18th, 2023, in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai, India. The video depicts a heated altercation between a taxi driver, Kayaumuddin Ansari, and Rishabh Chakravorty, the owner of an Audi, culminating in a physical assault. The incident, classified as a case of road rage, has sparked widespread outrage and ignited a public debate on the growing issue of aggression on Indian roads.
The initial trigger appears to be a minor accident involving Chakravorty's Audi and Ansari's taxi near Asalpha village in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Ansari, after the collision, requested compensation for the damage to his vehicle. However, Chakravorty is alleged to have disregarded Ansari's plea and driven away. This prompted Ansari to pursue Chakravorty to his home on LBS Marg in Ghatkopar, where he reportedly rammed his taxi into the Audi. The confrontation escalated further when Chakravorty's wife emerged from the Audi, allegedly engaging in verbal abuse directed at Ansari. Subsequently, Chakravorty himself exited the vehicle and, in a display of violence, physically assaulted Ansari, lifting him and throwing him to the ground.
Ansari promptly reported the incident to the Parksite police station, providing them with the video evidence. The police, upon reviewing the video and receiving Ansari's statement, filed an FIR against Chakravorty and his wife. The charges against the couple include assault, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation. However, the Parksite police, as of the time of reporting, have not made any arrests as most of the charges levied are bailable. They have issued a notice to Chakravorty and his wife, summoning them for questioning and further investigation.
