NEET UG 2024: Supreme Court to Hear Leak Case
  • Supreme Court to hear NEET UG petitions on July 22.
  • NTA released results after SC order, but leak concerns persist.
  • Court probes leak timing and possible financial motives.

The Supreme Court of India is set to resume its hearing on petitions related to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate (UG) 2024 exam on Monday, July 22. This comes after the National Testing Agency (NTA), in compliance with the court's order, released the results of all NEET-UG candidates, categorized by city and exam center, on their official website, neet.nta.nic.in. However, concerns about the integrity of the exam persist, as allegations of a paper leak continue to cast a shadow over the results.

The court's focus remains on determining whether the leak occurred before the exam papers were secured in bank custody – prior to May 3 – or after they left the banks en route to the exam centers. This investigation is driven by the need to understand the extent of the leak and the potential for widespread compromise of the exam. The Supreme Court has stressed the importance of establishing clear evidence of compromised integrity before considering any re-conduct of the exam.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud, during the previous hearing, questioned the high cost associated with obtaining leaked papers, suggesting that financial gain might be a motive behind the leak. He noted that those benefiting from the leak would likely not distribute the papers widely, implying that a limited number of individuals might have gained access to the information. This raises concerns about potential collusion and the need for a thorough investigation to identify those involved and bring them to justice.
