A chilling incident unfolded in Navi Mumbai, India, as a 24-year-old man, Daud Shaikh, was apprehended for the alleged murder of a 20-year-old woman, Yashshri Shinde. The police investigation revealed a grim story of a man consumed by jealousy and suspicion, culminating in a tragic loss of life.
Shaikh, a former resident of Uran, had known Shinde for over five years. The police suspect that Shaikh's motive for the murder stemmed from his belief that Shinde was involved in a romantic relationship with another man. While the exact sequence of events leading up to the murder remains under investigation, it appears that Shaikh's unfounded suspicions fueled his murderous rage.
The investigation revealed that Shaikh had a history of criminal activity, having been arrested in 2019 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). After securing bail, Shaikh relocated to his hometown and worked as a bus driver. On July 22, Shaikh traveled back to Mumbai and reconnected with Shinde. The following day, Shinde worked only a half day, raising suspicions that she had met with Shaikh. The next morning, July 25, Shinde went missing after leaving for work. Her family, unable to contact her, reported her disappearance to the Uran police. The police initiated a search, and on July 27, a gruesome discovery was made - Shinde's body was found in bushes near the Uran railway station.
The discovery of Shinde's body, bearing multiple stab wounds, confirmed the worst fears of her family. The police, upon identifying Shinde, registered a case of murder and immediately formed eight teams to locate the perpetrator. The investigation led them to three suspects who were in constant contact with Shinde, one of whom was Daud Shaikh. After thorough interrogation, Shaikh was identified as the prime suspect and two teams were dispatched to Bangalore and Shahapur in Karnataka. Finally, Shaikh was apprehended early on Tuesday.
