The Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UPSCR) has taken a significant step towards expansion with the official notification of six districts being included in its territory. This announcement, issued by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, comes four months after the draft for the amalgamation was approved. The newly designated area encompasses a total of 27,826 square kilometers, encompassing the state capital Lucknow along with Hardoi, Sitapur, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Barabanki.
The inclusion of these districts within the UPSCR is based on the powers vested in subsection (1) of Section 3 of the UPSCR and Other Regions Development Authority Ordinance, 2024. The aim of this expansion is to promote coordinated and sustainable development within the region, addressing issues such as infrastructure, housing, and environmental management. The inclusion of these districts is anticipated to have a significant impact on the future development of the region, bringing a greater focus on infrastructure, housing, and environmental management.
To ensure the effective implementation of development projects and resource management within the UPSCR, the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority has been established. This authority will play a crucial role in overseeing the planning and execution of various projects within the region, promoting cooperation and coordination among different stakeholders. The creation of this authority underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the UPSCR initiative and its potential to bring about transformative changes in the region.
