Delhi, the national capital of India, experienced a spell of heavy rainfall on Thursday, bringing much-needed respite from the scorching summer heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the maximum temperature settled at 36.2 degrees Celsius, slightly above the season's normal. The early morning downpour led to waterlogging and traffic snarls in several parts of the city, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The Safdarjung weather station, Delhi's main weather station, recorded 19.1 mm of rainfall in just three hours, from 8:30 am onwards. Other weather stations, like Lodhi Road and Pusa, also reported significant rainfall during the same period, recording 25.7 mm and 10 mm respectively. The humidity level stood at 67 percent at 5:30 pm.

Visuals from across the city depicted roads inundated with water, highlighting the impact of the heavy rain. The Rampura underpass in northwest Delhi's Keshavpuram zone was completely submerged, with children seen bathing in the accumulated water. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi received a total of 13 complaints regarding waterlogging and eight incidents of uprooted trees from various localities.

The IMD has issued a “yellow” alert for Delhi, indicating the possibility of more rainfall, which is expected to continue till July 28. This alert serves as a warning for residents to remain prepared for potential disruptions caused by the rain. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the “moderate” category at 4 pm, with a reading of 109, indicating a slight improvement in air quality compared to the previous days.
