Pawar Rebuts Modi's Attack, Recalls Helping Him in Gujarat Crisis
  • Sharad Pawar claims to have helped PM Modi with agricultural crisis in Gujarat.
  • Pawar says Modi visited Israel on his recommendation to study farming techniques.
  • Pawar's comments come after Modi's criticism of his handling of farmers' issues.

Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party, has claimed that he helped Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter's tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, particularly in addressing agricultural issues.

Pawar, who served as Union Agriculture Minister from 2004 to 2014, said that Modi had sought his assistance in studying unique farming techniques in Israel.

Pawar accompanied Modi to Israel for this purpose. Modi's subsequent visit to Israel in 2017 marked the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister since independence.

Pawar's revelation came in response to Modi's recent criticism of his record as Agriculture Minister. Modi had accused Pawar of neglecting farmers' welfare during his tenure.

Pawar has defended his record, asserting that he had taken steps to support farmers, including providing subsidies and implementing agricultural reforms.

The exchange between Pawar and Modi highlights the ongoing political rivalry between the two leaders. Pawar's decision to publicly recall his assistance to Modi is seen as an attempt to counter Modi's attacks and assert his own political clout.

It remains to be seen how this latest development will impact the ongoing Lok Sabha election campaign, in which both Pawar and Modi are key players.
