Odisha's Chief Electoral Officer N B Dhal announced on Wednesday that the voter turnout for the first phase of polling in four Lok Sabha seats and 28 assembly segments was 75.68%. The CEO expects the turnout to increase once postal votes are received.
The highest voter turnout was recorded in the Nabarangpur Lok Sabha constituency at 82.16%. Other constituencies with high turnouts include Kalahandi, Koraput, and Berhampur.
The Nabarangpur district, which is dominated by tribals, recorded an impressive voter turnout of 84.57%, surpassing its previous record of 80% set in 2019. The high turnout is attributed to extensive voter awareness campaigns.
Among the assembly segments in Nabarangpur, the highest polling percentage was recorded in Nabarangpur at 85.61%, followed by Dabugaon (85.20%), Jharigaon (84.22%), and Umerkote (83.05%).
The Nabarangpur Lok Sabha constituency saw a notable rise in voter participation compared to 2019, with 82.16% turnout compared to 79.52% in the previous election.
Candidates from various political parties expressed optimism about the impact of the high voter turnout on their campaigns. The high turnout is seen as an indication of people's dissatisfaction with the ruling parties, both at the state and central levels.
