IMA President Apologizes, Supreme Court Unsatisfied
  • IMA president apologizes for comments questioning Supreme Court.
  • Apology rejected by Supreme Court, dissatisfaction expressed.
  • Yoga guru Ramdev praised for efforts to promote yoga internationally.

The Supreme Court of India has taken a stern view of the comments made by Indian Medical Association (IMA) president R V Asokan, in which he allegedly questioned the court's handling of a petition filed by the IMA against Patanjali Ayurved Ltd.

Asokan has since filed an affidavit tendering an unconditional apology, but the court has expressed dissatisfaction with the apology, stating that it does not believe it is heartfelt.

The court also criticized Asokan for choosing to give the interview in which he made the comments, saying that he should have instead approached the court directly if he had any concerns.

In contrast, the court praised yoga guru Ramdev, who is the founder of Patanjali Ayurved, for his efforts to promote yoga internationally.

The court noted that Ramdev has a lot of 'astha' (faith) and that the court recognizes his efforts to 'internationalize yoga'.

The court also said that the public is well-informed and makes balanced choices when it comes to healthcare, and that there should be camaraderie between the IMA and Patanjali.

The court's comments come as part of a larger case in which the IMA has accused Patanjali Ayurved of making false and misleading claims about its products.

The court is still considering the case and has not yet issued a final ruling.
