HD Revanna, a prominent member of the Janata Dal (Secular) and son of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, has been arrested in connection with an alleged sex scandal case in Karnataka. The arrest was made by the Special Investigation Committee (SIT) on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
The arrest of Revanna follows the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea by a Bengaluru court in connection with the Mysuru abduction case. The SIT had earlier detained Revanna from his father's residence and brought him to the CID office where the arrest was made.
The case pertains to allegations of sexual assault against Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna. A complaint was filed by a woman who worked in Revanna's house, alleging that she was sexually harassed by both father and son.
The SIT has also conducted a rescue operation to find the victim of the abduction case, who was allegedly held captive at a farmhouse in Kalenahalli, Hunsur Taluk. The victim is expected to speak to the probing panel soon.
Meanwhile, Prajwal Revanna's anticipatory bail application has also been denied by the People's Representative Court in Bengaluru.
The arrest of HD Revanna has sent shockwaves through the political circles in Karnataka. The case is being closely watched by the public and the media, and is expected to have significant implications for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stated that he will not interfere in the investigation against HD Revanna, and that action must be taken as per law.
The SIT is also investigating the possibility of issuing a Blue Corner Notice against Prajwal Revanna, who is said to have left the country.
