Congress Leader Claims Karkare Not Killed by Kasab, Stirs Controversy
  • Congress leader alleges RSS-linked cop killed Karkare, not Kasab.
  • Nikam, 26/11 prosecutor, accused of suppressing the truth.
  • BJP denounces Wadettiwar's statements, files complaint.

Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has ignited a significant controversy by alleging that terrorist Ajmal Kasab did not kill police official Hemant Karkare during the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Instead, Wadettiwar claims that a cop affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) shot and killed Karkare, and that Ujjwal Nikam, the government's lawyer in the 26/11 case, was aware of this fact but concealed it.

Wadettiwar's claims stem from a book written by retired police officer SM Mushrif titled 'Who Killed Karkare.'

The BJP has strongly condemned Wadettiwar's statements, accusing the Congress of giving a clean chit to Pakistan for the 26/11 attacks.

The BJP legal cell in Nagpur has filed a complaint against Wadettiwar for his 'shameful and derogatory' remarks about Karkare's death.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have also denounced Wadettiwar's statements.

Former Congress leader Milind Deora, who joined Shinde's Shiv Sena, expressed his shame over Wadettiwar's claims, emphasizing the pain he witnessed firsthand during the 2008 terror attacks.

The controversy surrounding Wadettiwar's allegations has further escalated tensions between the Congress and the BJP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
